Spiritual Formation

Deepen your relationship with God through prayer and reflection based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola and accompanying the marginalized.

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all I have and call my own.

- St. Ignatius of Loyola

Ignatian Companions is a faith formation program rooted in Ignatian spirituality. Through prayer, reflection, service, and spiritual companionship, participants deepen their relationship with God while accompanying those who are poor, marginalized, and vulnerable.

The program encourages discernment, compassionate presence, and an ongoing commitment to faith that does justice.

All Companions Commit To:

Praying and reflecting daily to deepen their love of God.

Gathering monthly from September to June with fellow Companions to share faith and support each other on their journey.

Accompanying the poor, marginalized, or socially vulnerable in their community. Ideally this is direct service with individuals or groups and is done weekly.

Participating in one-day retreats at the beginning and ending of the program year.

Meeting monthly with a Spiritual Director. This is required for the first year and strongly encouraged for everyone.

YEAR ONE

The Ignatius Year

Participants use Guide for the Journey which is an adaptation of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. A trained facilitator guide the monthly discussions.

YEAR TWO

The Hurtado Year

This year, participants use Doing the Truth in Love by Michael Himes which explores a contemporary response to social issues. A trained facilitator guides the monthly discussions.

YEAR THREE & BEYOND

The Xavier Companions

Companions continue practicing a faith that does justice through prayer, reflection and accompanying the marginalized in their community. Each cohort selects readings to guide their continued exploration and discussions.
